Kimberly A. Cameron, a Milwaukee native, has spent more than 30 years transforming neighborhoods as a real estate and construction management professional. Influenced by her parents’ values, Kimberly pursued a unique career path, earning a Bachelor of Science in Construction Administration as the first Black woman in the major at the University of Madison-Wisconsin and later an MBA in Finance from Concordia University Wisconsin.
She began her career during a recession and held key roles, including VP of Real Estate Development at H.J. Russell & Company in Atlanta, where she managed an annual departmental budget of $1.5 million and multiple project budgets totaling $75 million for mixed-use, mixed-income, market-rate and 100% affordable properties. She also served as the qualifying broker of record for the company, performing compliance monitoring to ensure it was operating within Georgia Real Estate Commission rules and regulations.
Her diverse experience spans roles as an entrepreneur, adjunct professor and Senior Program Manager for the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority. At Self-Help in Durham, North Carolina, she led a 20-member real estate team and managed significant projects, including revitalizing a defunct shopping center.
She was then appointed Director of Real Estate and Economic Development for the North Carolina A&T Real Estate Foundation and eventually succeeded in that role to become Executive Director. Her accomplishments include executing the largest real estate transaction in the history of the Foundation, closing two bond deals back-to-back valued at more than $71 million. She engaged the Director of Financial Reporting and Director of Accounting on those closings, helping financial operations staff gain much needed major bond deal experience.
